We were at a family reunion (Summer of 1972) after our Grandmother Bertha Hoaglund crossed over in April 1972.
In water I sink like a rock, always have. Doug and I were in a canoe being “towed” so to speak by cousin Terry at Lake View.
Doug told Terry to keep it slow, he didn’t, the canoe overturned and down I went. Black Hawk Lake in Lake View isn’t deep, but when you are a “rock” it’s deep!
Doug came up, no Allen in sight. He went down, found me and brought me up. I was 11. I might have the details a little off, but that’s my recollection…….I’m here today because Doug saved me from drowning that afternoon.
