I met Jim when I moved to Hartley in May of 1981. The Hub was right next door to Cmelik Law Office. He would periodically come in to share a joke or story. He had a great sense of humor. Years later whenever I was in town, you could tell a mile away that he had a new story just by his grin. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with Helen, Jean, Carol and Cindy and their families at this difficult time.

Jim and Helen, so many memories, especially of the Hesse’s living next door at Okobiji. We were there part of the summers .. back when …. But the Hesse’s were there all summer. And I remember Jim and LeRoy putting up the “tower” for all of us to enjoy and the hi-dive! And I remember and envied JoAnn for having so many swim suits. I think she must have had a dozen! And she was so gorgeous. Reminded me of Esther Williams ! Looked so much like Nina. What summers to remember. And I remember visiting Jim at the Hub when I would come to see Grandma Welthy. Thank is for all of those memories. And Jim and Helen were always so welcoming when we would stop by to visit at Okobiji. Jerry told me he remembers wrestling with Jim next to the cottages and Jim would always let him win. RIP. A great life you had. Gloria , New York City Jerry , Pine AZ

The Sayre girls spent many babysitting hours at the Hesse sorority house and Getting fraternity house! Lots of fun memories in that neighborhood1 So grateful Jim, Helen, Red and Susi entrusted us with their littles. My heart goes out to each of you. Embrace your memories.

I met Jim in 1954 when he was a student in my Hartley High School English Class. What a great young man ! He was a good athlete and musician. I have been fortunate to have been in touch with JIim for the last 70 years that we have lived in Hartley. What a Great Guy ! My sincere sympathy to Helen and the girls. Howard and Carol Borchard

My deepest sympathy to Helen, Jean, Carol, and Cindy. Jim was such a character. Memories as a child of sliding down the stair banister at the clothing store in Hartley while my Dad got fitted for suits. Most recently having the pleasure of reconnecting with Jim and Helen and running errands for them and taking them to appointments. It was the highlight of my afternoons spending time with both of them. So many laughs in just the few months I helped. He will be missed and forever remembered fondly & with a smile. God Bless

So sorry to hear this sad news about Jim. Helen and Jim were my next-door condo neighbor at Beaches and loved having them next door. Such a sweet couple and Jim always had the biggest smile and greeting for myself and grandkids when we would arrive for a stay. With moving to MN I was already missing them. Please accept our prayers and well wishes to Helen and family.
