Obituary of Gladys Louise Buren
Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gladys Louise Buren came into the world March 14, 1916, on a farm near Hospers, Iowa, one of six children born to Arthur and Elvie (Wolf) Schneider. She spent her youth in the Hospers area where she received her education, graduating from the 8th Grade.
On October 29, 1944, Gladys was united in marriage to Peter Buren at Worthington, Minnesota. They spent their married life in Sanborn, Iowa and became parents of two daughters: Carol and Susan. Between managing the household and taking care of her growing family, Gladys and Pete would take time out to go on short fishing trips together and relaxed in the evening dancing to old-time tunes.
Gladys had always “had a way” with horses and eventually became quite an accomplished horsewoman. The whole family spent many summers in South Dakota, as Gladys looked forward to riding on the trail rides held there. She also competed in the Costume Class at local horse shows.
On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, Gladys passed from this life at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa at the age of 106 years. She was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor and will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Carol and her husband, Harold Nelsen of Lake Park, Iowa, and Susan and her husband, Gerald Leth of Hartley, Iowa; four grandchildren: Lee Nelsen of Lake Park, Iowa, Dawn and her husband, Doug Goodell of Lake Park, Iowa, Lori Leth of Hartley, Iowa, and LeAnn and her husband, Donald Reetz of Milford, Iowa; six great-grandchildren: Connor Pasillas, Private Juliana Pasillas both of Hartley, Iowa, Seth Goodell, Nathan Goodell both of Lake Park, Iowa, Elizabeth Reetz and Ethan Reetz both of Omaha, Nebraska; other relatives and close friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Elvie Schneider; her husband of 53 years, Pete Buren; three brothers: Glen Schneider, Kenneth Schneider, and Doug Schneider; two sisters: Evelyn Pietens and Lois Roberts.
