Obituary of Louise Mae Burley
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise Mae Burley was born to Rudolph and Anna Popp on December 18, 1925. Her enjoyable sense of humor matched her fun name...Louise Mae Popp! She proudly claimed Moneta, Iowa as the place she was born and raised along with her brother and three sisters. She was a graduate of Moneta High School and always enjoyed reminiscing with the small handful of Moneta alumni that faithfully celebrated together.
In 1947, Louise was married to Daryl (Mike) Burley. They chose Hartley to be their home for all 65 years of their marriage, until his death in 2013. Louise and Mike were known for their smooth moves on the dance floor. Louise can be credited for “surviving” the never boring task of successfully raising their four fun-loving sons...whom she adored! She was very fond of playing cards, golfing, reading and serving others. She also loved those Iowa Hawkeyes! Her witty personality and strong work ethic were appreciated at a variety of workplaces including the Hartley Hospital, Red’s Cafe and her brother’s restaurant, The Cat’s Eye in Primghar. More than anything, she cherished the good times with Mike, her boys, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louise, age 93, passed away at her home at Hartley Community Memorial Health Center on January 24, 2019. She had been blessed by the wonderful, loving care she was given by the CMHC staff for 8 years. Her life will be celebrated at Hartley United Methodist Church, where she was a member for many years.
The special memories will live on in the hearts of her four sons and their families, Rodger and Paula, Boomer (Rodney) and Beth, Todd and Barb, and Scott, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Louise will also be missed by her two sisters, Jean Smith of Nevada, IA and Lucille Hansen of Lakefield, MN, her sister-in-law, Ellen Burley of Sioux Falls, close extended family, the Westphalens of Hartley, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
