Obituary of Glenn Henry Thompson

    Glenn Henry Thompson, youngest child of James Clayton and Jennie Mae (McClain) Thompson, was born November 19, 1933 at Seguin, Texas. He spent his youth in the Seguin and San Antonio, Texas areas, where he received his education, graduating from the 8th Grade.

    Glenn served his country in the United States Army from November of 1950 until December of 1953 when he was honorably discharged. On October 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rowena Elizabeth Elliott at San Antonio, Texas.

    The couple’s married life was anything but dull or boring. Most kids would think of it as a great adventure! Glenn’s construction work took them to many different locations, even up to Alaska to homestead with their four small boys and six week-old baby daughter. Despite the upheaval each move created, they survived it together, sharing The Good News wherever they went as part-time evangelists through the Pentecostal church.

    When Glenn could manage some free time, he enjoyed taking in nature with a fishing pole in his hand. He also loved to tell stories, read or just relax and watch television. Glenn and Rowena eventually settled on a place in the country near Hartley, Iowa to be closer to their daughter.

    On Friday, May 11, 2018, Glenn passed from this life at the age of 84 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Jennie Thompson; all his siblings; and two sons: Wallace Manning and Lloyd Manning.

    Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rowena Thompson of Hartley, Iowa; his children: Glenda (Dyke) Verkerk of Georgia, Dalton Thompson of Texas, Darrell Manning of Texas, Myrtle Rowena Manning, Kenny Hopkins, and Melodie Weaver all of Arkansas, and Kris (Ricky) Wilson of Iowa; grandchildren: Richard (Kelly) Wilson, Ryan (Tiara) Wilson, Alesha (Clint) Robinson all of Iowa, Lindsey Verkerk of Georgia, Landon (Ali) Verkerk of Pennsylcania, Amy Little of Georgia, among others; great-grandchildren: Keona Wilson, Levi Wilson, Jasmin Wilson, Hailee Conrady, Emilee Guinn, Blayke Moeller, Kinsey Moeller all of Iowa, Halle Verkerk and Keenon Verkerk of Georgia, among others; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; and friends.
