Obituary of William Winfield McCune

    William Winfield "Bill" McCune, son of Dale and Nellie (Hooker) McCune, was born at Sioux City, IA on June 28, 1958. He spent his youth in the Kingsley, IA area where he attended school; graduating from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1976. Bill furthered his education at Western Iowa Technical College at Sioux City, IA, concentrating on Livestock Management.

    On December 15, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kimberly Sheree Smith at the American Lutheran Church in Melvin, IA. To this union was born one son, Jess. They spent their first year together at Sheldon, IA, then moved to Spencer, IA. In 2003, they settled on their acreage southeast of Langdon, IA.

    Bill was employed with Peterson Sheep and Cattle Company for seven years. In 1987, he began working for Bill Stevenson Construction, operating heavy equipment for nearly 30 years. His work endeavors always centered around being outdoors, and that suited him perfectly. Bill liked fresh air, sunshine and digging in the dirt. He thoroughly enjoyed working with horses of any size or color, and took great pleasure in showing them. Another passion of Bill's was following the Professional Bull Riding Circuit, of which he was an avid fan! He was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church at Spencer. Bill passed from this life on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the age of 59 years.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, Dale and Nellie McCune; his mother and father-in-law, Phyllis and Delmar Sauer; and his brother, Dan McCune.

    Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim, and their son, Jess McCune both of Langdon, IA; one sister, Diane, and her husband, Mike Mathison of Dow City, IA; sisters-in-law: Karen McCune of Sioux City, IA, Kristia, and her husband, Brian Cox, Ashley Smith, and her friend, Kelly Smith; brother-in-law, Zach Smith, and his wife, Evangelina Fernandez all of Denver, CO; father-in-law, Royce Smith and step-mother-in-law, Melissa Smith of Littleton, CO; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
