Obituary of Diane Kay Huls

    Diane Kay Huls, the daughter of Irvin C. and Betty R. (Brown) Riessen, was born February 13, 1948 at Primghar, Iowa. The family lived on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa, then moved to Hartley, Iowa for a short time before settling on a farm by May City, Iowa. Here she spent her childhood, along with her brother, Dean, and sister, Gloria. She attended school at Hartley, Iowa, graduating in 1966.

    On March 20, 1981, Diane was united in marriage to Kenneth B. McDougal of Melvin, Iowa. They lived on the McDougal home place near Melvin where Ken farmed and Diane enjoyed taking care of her horses, dogs, and cats. She always loved working with animals, and would often volunteer to look after pets for friends if they were going to be out of town. Along with her animal duties, she also operated a small ceramics shop.

    Following Ken's death on January 7, 1999, Diane remained on the farm. On February 12, 2000, she married Mike Huls of Sibley, Iowa, and eventually, they moved to Sibley. She passed from this life on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the age of 69.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken McDougal; and her parents, Irvin and Betty Riessen.

    Survivors include her husband, Mike Huls of Sibley, Iowa; her brother, Dean Riessen and his wife, Carol of Spencer, Iowa; her sister, Gloria Riessen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; father and mother-in-law, John and Shirley Huls of Sibley, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Karen and Merlin Doorenbos of Sibley, Iowa, Kathy and Paul King of Garreston, South Dakota; brothers-in-law: Kenny Huls of Sibley, Iowa, Keith and Brenda Huls of Sioux City, Iowa, Kevin and Val Huls of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
