Obituary of Sandra Kay Joens Leapley
Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra "Sandi" Kay Joens Leapley, daughter of Weldon and Lois Mabel (Husmann) Walstrom, was born on August 9, 1946 at Fort Dodge, IA. She attended school there through her Junior year. One of her most memorable school events was marching with the Fort Dodge Lancers Drum Corp at the John F. Kennedy Inaugural Parade in 1961. The family relocated to Pocahontas, IA in 1963 where Sandra completed her Senior year of High School.
On April 4, 1966, Sandra was united in marriage to Eldon Joens whom she had met during her Senior year. The couple resided in Pocahontas, raising their three daughters: Tammy, Tina, and Tricia. Along with taking care of her growing family, Sandra also worked as a bank teller in Pocahontas for several years. Following Eldon's death in 2001, she moved to Sioux City, IA in 2003, and was employed as a Bariatric Coordinator for Midland's Clinic at Dakota Dunes.
Sandra met Ronald Leapley in 2006; after a few years of dating, they were married on August 14, 2010 in Coleridge, NE. They had made their home in Hartley, IA the past several years. In her spare time, Sandra enjoyed quilting, gardening, singing, and reading a good book. However, nothing was quite as satisfying as baking for her grandchildren.
Ron passed from this life in January of this year; Sandra followed on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the age of 70. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husbands; Eldon Joens and Ronald Leapley.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tammy (Mike) Seeley of Tilton, IL, Tina Joens of Pocahontas, IA, and Tricia (Jason) Vial of Hartley, IA; seven grandchildren: Sr. Airman Bryce Seeley, Nicole Joens, Sr. Airman Zachery Seeley, Kyle Seeley, Noah Joens, Brittany Vial, and Carley Vial; one great-grandchild, Caiden Seeley; two sisters: Patty Jamieson of Ankeny, IA, Linda (Gene) Habben of Fort Dodge, IA; two brothers: Danny Walstrom and Tim Walstrom both of Fort Dodge, IA; other relatives and friends.
