Obituary of Vernon Kenneth Storm
Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vernon "Bud" Kenneth Storm, son of William Gustav and Anne Eleanor (Hovey) Storm, was born on August 7, 1926 at Sanborn, IA. He spent his youth in the Sanborn area where he attended a local country school.
On October 1, 1950, Bud was united in marriage to Betty Faye Schirmer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn. To this union four children were born: Edward, Leslie, Rodney, and Anita.
From 1951 through 1952, Bud served his country as a construction engineer in the United States Army, being stationed in Japan and Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Sanborn to continue his farming career. Over the years, he received numerous awards for his conservation methods and land stewardship.
Bud was a talented musician as well, playing for barn dances at the age of 10, and was a member of The Storm Accordion Band during his teenage years. In recent years, he played for area social events, including Centennial celebrations, and sharing his musical gifts with residents at local nursing homes.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn, participating on various church boards. He served his community as a member of the Osceola County Rural Water Board, and on the Sanborn Coop Grain Board of Directors.
Bud enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being outdoors in general, but spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was always the best. He and Betty partnered together in their farming operation for the 61 years of their married life, until Betty's passing in 2012. Bud continued to live and work on the farm through the harvest of 2016. He passed from this life on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 90.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Betty; his brother, Earl; and an infant great-grandson, Matthew Campbell.
Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses: Edward (Cindy) Storm of Sioux City, IA, Leslie (Janice) Storm, Rodney (Pauline) Storm, both of Sanborn, IA, and Anita (Todd) Heitritter of Archer, IA; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Elaine Heiliger of Melvin, IA; sisters-in-law: Ruby (Mrs. Earl) Storm and Betty (Mrs. Donald) Schirmer; other relatives and friends.
*The family will be present for the visitation at the church prior to the service on Thursday.
