Obituary of Bonnie Lou Raymond

Bonnie Lou (Gibbs) Raymond, the daughter of Milton and Louise (Stanfield) Gibbs was born Easter Sunday on April 8, 1928. She lived her youth in Sanborn, Iowa, attending Sanborn Public School. She was active in her high school years, participating in the band as a baritone player and drum majorette. She was a cheerleader and the Homecoming Queen. She also had the opportunity to work for Doc Sanders and run the projector at the local theatre. Following graduation in 1946, she moved to Sheldon where she worked as a telephone operator. On April 8, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gayle Raymond at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Beryl and Rhee. The couple lived on the farm south of Sanborn, moving to the lakes in 1973. Bonnie worked at Dave’s Photography until she went into the retail business operating Shell Land and The Basket House plus others. She loved the lakes area and the tourist business. Bonnie passed away at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa on December 23, 2016 at the age of 88.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sanborn, Iowa and the First Presbyterian Church of Spirit Lake, Iowa. During those years she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and belonged to Circle. She loved everything about the lakes area. She attended many of her grandchildren’s activities. She loved and cherished being with her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was the light of her life and taking care of everybody was of utmost importance. Beryl and Rhee attending college was her goal as she never had that opportunity.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Gayle Raymond of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Beryl (Raymond) Marra and husband Keith of Okoboji, Iowa, and Rhee (Raymond) Zima and husband, Daniel of Onawa, Iowa. Four grandchildren; Rory Marra of Milford, Iowa, Zachary Zima of Onawa, Iowa, Reeann Marra of Okoboji, Iowa, and Kassie Zima and special friend, Spencer Taylor of Spencer, Iowa. Two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Donna Raymond of Sanborn, Iowa, Sherryl and Jack Jones of Wahpeton, Iowa, and many very special nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Gwneth (Leonard) Jurgens and Rillie (Jim) Lougheed and one brother, Bert (Esther) Gibbs, nephews Brian Jones and Ty Cummings, and great nephew Jeff Gibbs.
