Obituary of Jennie Wagenaar
Please share a memory of Jennie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jennie G. (Van Heuvelen) Wagenaar, the daughter of Case and Hattie (Vander Weerd) Van Heuvelen, was born in Volga, SD on January 18, 1916. The family moved to a farm near Sanborn when Jennie was 10 years old and later to a farm near Archer.
Jennie married Sid Wagenaar on February 20, 1941. The couple farmed and raised their four children on a farm near Archer. In 1957, they purchased the Archer Hardware store, which they owned and operated until retiring in 1989. In the years following retirement, they were able to travel the U.S. visiting their children and other relatives. They felt very blessed to have been married for nearly 66 years.
In the early days of their marriage, Jennie was a busy mother, and helped Sid with the farming and the hardware store. She later enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, as well as crocheting and knitting.
Left to cherish Jennie’s memory are her husband Sid, her children: Myrna and her husband Russ King of Nisswa, MN, Robert and his wife Marie of Middletown, DE, Marlene of Waterloo, IA, and Howard and his wife Vicky of Alcester, SD; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Anna and her husband Rich Den Hartog; a brother Henry and his wife Alvina Van Heuvelen; a sister-in-law Alice Van Heuvelen; and a brother-in-law Vernon Schemper, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Nettie Eggink, Bertha Dolieslager, and Harriet Schemper; brothers Gilbert, Raymond, and Benard; sisters-in-law Edith Van Heuvelen and Margaret Van Heuvelen; and brothers-in-law Herman Eggink and Bob Dolieslager.
