Memorial Tribute
Levoy Arthur Thomas was born in Sanborn, IA on March 31, 1911; the son of Arthur and Sylvia Pearl (Longbottom) Thomas. He grew up on a farm north of Sanborn. He attended country school and later graduated from Sanborn Public School.
After two years of normal training, Levoy taught at the Klever School near Melvin, IA for three years. He traveled to school using either his Model T or a team of western broncos. He farmed in partnership with his parents and brother, Orion, for many years. They owned a threshing machine with a steam engine that did all the neighborhood oat harvest.
On April 8, 1941, Levoy married Marian Yale. The couple farmed in the Sanborn and Hartley areas. Marian passed away in 1953. He married Dorothy (Wittrock) Anderegg on November 30, 1954, in Worthington, MN. The Thomas’ continued farming in the Hartley and Primghar, IA areas.
Levoy always loved farming—he raised Black Angus cattle and owned several horses. He enjoyed playing cards (especially 500), and taking trips with Dorothy—among his favorites was traveling to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. He was a 60+ year member of the, Onyx Lodge #419, and OES Coral Chapter #41 of Sanborn, and was a member of the Sioux City Consistory, Abu Beker Shrine, and the Hartley United Methodist Church
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy, of Hartley; one brother, Orion, of Sanborn; two step-children: Michael Anderegg of San Diego, CA, and Patricia and her husband, Mike Pfeiffer of Bellevue, NE; three step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, Marian, and his sister, Violet Brandt.
