Obituary of Edward Wittrock
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Wittrock, the son of Herman and Alvena (Voege) Wittrock, was born on January 21, 1905. He grew up in Sutherland, IA, and graduated from high school there. He drove the school bus during his last two years of school.
On February 9, 1927, Ed was united in marriage to Annetta Troxel in Primghar, IA. The couple farmed together in the Sutherland and Hartley areas until 1966, working and raising their five children. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed traveling, and took many trips and tours together. They were blessed to have been married for 68 years, until Annetta’s death on Nov. 12, 1995.
Ed lived a life-style that was not dictated by his advancing age. He kept busy fishing, keeping up his home, and doing wood and metal work. He was proud to have some of his craftsmanship on display at the antique car museum in Minden, NE. He continued to be active in his church and in his community. He was a member of the Hartley United Methodist Church, the Masons’ Onyx Lodge #419 AF&AM, and the Abu Bekr Shrine-Sioux City Consistory. He was a past member of the board of directors for CD Farm Service, as well as the former chairman of the building committee for the present UMC in Hartley. He lived in his own home until July 1, 2006. He passed away at Baum Harmon-Mercy Hospital in Primghar, IA on Monday, August 28 at the age of 101.
Survivors include his children: Jim Wittrock of Hartley, IA, Dorothy and her husband Levoy Thomas, also of Hartley, IA, Keith Wittrock and his wife Betty of Council Bluffs, IA, Betty and her husband Gordon Stone of Marathon, IA, Richard Wittrock and his wife Shirley of Milford, IA; twelve grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Marjorie Troxel of Malaga, WA, and Lillian Troxel of Homedale, ID.
