Obituary of Margret Getting

Margret Inetta (Pippinger) Getting, the daughter of Newt and Inga (Skorheim) Pippinger, was born on February 16, 1912 in Canton, SD, and was baptized in the American Lutheran Church in Canton, SD. When she was three months old she moved with her parents to Sanborn, IA. She attended Sanborn Public School and graduated in 1930. On August 21, 1931, Margret was united in marriage to Leslie Getting in Canton, SD. Following their marriage, the couple returned to Hartley to start a trucking and livestock business. The business would later expand to include a buying station in Sanborn, and a stockyard in Hartley. Margret was involved in many aspects of the business, while at the same time taking care of the home and raising their five children. She passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, IA on August 25, 2006. Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Maurice “Red” Getting and his wife Suzie of Hartley, IA; James Getting and his wife DyAnn of Spencer, IA; a daughter, Susie Stanley and her husband Don of Hartley, IA; two daughters-in-law: Pat Getting of North Ft. Meyers, FL, and Jeannette Getting of Miles, OH; 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. Margret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leslie, and two sons: Jerry and Robert; a grandson Bradley; three sisters: Joyce Severance, Norine Kreykes and Delores Thiessen. Through the years, Margret was active in the Hartley Methodist Church, and in Meadow Brook Golf Course. She was the first president of the Women’s Auxiliary, a member of the Abu Beker Shrine Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Royal Neighbors. Some of her special interests and hobbies included golfing, crocheting, sewing, working in her garden, growing her African Violets, and sporting events. She was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings (when they were winning), and loved fishing for perch (when they were biting). In Remembrance of Margret I.
