Obituary of Lester Zinn

Lester Emil Zinn, the son of Emil and Meta (Stellish) Zinn, was born at Moneta, IA on May 18, 1922. As a youth, Lester lived in the Moneta area on the family farm, and attended school there until he graduated from high school.
Lester was united in marriage to Margaret Helen Gould on March 1, 1945 at Margaret’s parents’ home. This union was blessed with three sons: James, Roger and Thomas. Following their marriage the couple resided on Lester’s parent’s farm three miles southwest of Spencer. He and Margaret were engaged in farming and he also worked for Jersey Dairy picking-up bulk milk until his retirement in 1982. Then they moved to Spencer south of Stub’s Ranch Kitchen. After retirement Lester continued to work for local farmers in the area, he also delivered automobiles for various car dealerships; he worked for the Clay County Maintenance Dept. weighing gravel trucks. Lester passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer, IA.
He is survived by his wife: Margaret; three sons: James and his wife, Sandi, of Albuquerque, NM; Roger and his wife Marti, of Spencer, IA and Thomas and his wife Tammy of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren Kim Carpenter and her husband Jeff of Des Moines, IA, and Lisa Christensen and her husband Andy of Hayward, MN, Chris Zinn of Phoenix, AZ, Missy Zinn of Spencer, IA and Thomas Zinn II of Des Moines, IA; three great grandchildren Caitlyn, Connor and Sophia; other relatives and many friends.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ed & Elmer; one sister: Celia and a brother-in-law: George Gould.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Clay County Farm Bureau; he was one of the organizers of the Clay County Rural Water system. Special interest of Lester’s included the Spencer Tail Twisters, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball & Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and his favorite bowling. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
