Obituary of Lorraine Forret

Memorial Tribute Lorraine Genevieve Forret, daughter of Andrew and Henrietta (Vandrah) Goodman, was born April 9, 1924 at Rhodes, Iowa. She spent her youth at Baxter, Iowa and received her education there, graduating from Baxter High School. Following graduation, she furthered her education at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. On October 7, 1948, Lorraine was united in marriage to F. Harold Forret at Rhodes, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Steve, Cindy and Beth. Throughout their married life, the couple made their home, and raised their family, at Des Moines and Adel, Iowa. Over the years, Lorraine was able to use the skills she gained at A.I.B. as owner/operator of a small shoe store in Des Moines, Iowa. She was also employed by insurance companies doing secretarial work, and later, operated a small motel in Adel. Lorraine enjoyed traveling, taking trips to visit family and friends. Being a quiet person, she was always ready to pour a cup of coffee and be a good listener. Her years of living experience had armed her with wisdom and insight. She was a loving mother, ever supportive of her husband and children. After Harold’s death in 2009, Lorraine moved to Sheldon, Iowa where she enjoyed living at Fieldcrest and being closer to her family. With her impaired vision, listening to books on tape occupied many hours. In July, 2015, Lorraine moved to Sanford Senior Care Center, also in Sheldon, where she resided until until her death on August 18, 2016 at the age of 92. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold; her son, Steve Andrew, and his wife, Mary (DeVoe) Forret; son-in-law, Rod Robertson; and granddaughter, Abby Myers. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Cindy, and her husband, Jack Myers of Sheldon, Iowa; and Beth Robertson of LeMars, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
