Obituary of Lois Roth

MEMORIAL TRIBUTE Lois LaVonne Roth, daughter of Gilbert and Ruth (Zimmerman) Garnjobst, was born September 5, 1932 at Crofton, Nebraska. She spent her youth in the Crofton area, and later moved with her family to Everly, Iowa. Lois continued her education here, graduating from Everly High School with the class of 1950. On July 9, 1951, Lois was united in marriage to Jerome "Jerry" Roth at Worthington, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with three children: Rodney, Beverlee and Jeraldine "Jeri". Following their marriage, Lois devoted her time and energy caring for her family and making "home" a warm, comfortable place to be. Once the children were older and able to manage for themselves, she found employment at the Hartley Hospital in Hartley, Iowa. In 1974, Lois and Jerry, along with their son, Rod, established Roth T.V and Appliance at Sanborn, Iowa. While Jerry focused on the technical end of the business, Lois greeted customers with her friendly smile and kept the books in order. When microwave ovens first came out, she organized "cooking schools" so customers could understand all the new features and be more comfortable with their new purchase. She also put together and operated a Video Rental Center from their store on main street, making movie entertainment, and owning a brand new VCR player a real possibility. Jerry still manages the business today. Being indoors all day, a little outdoor activity was a welcome change, so Lois tried her hand at golf. Fresh air and sunshine are never a bad thing (even if she did miss the ball once in a while). She also enjoyed taking in a few trips to the casino. At quieter times, she grabbed her iPad, following family and friends on Facebook, and playing Words with friends. Another form of relaxation touched on her artistic side when Lois began using crayons to create many beautiful pictures for her family to treasure. Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. She passed from this life on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the age of 83. Preceding her in death were her parents, Gilbert and Ruth Garnjobst; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Wescott. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 64 years, Jerry of Hartley, Iowa; three children: Rodney Roth and his wife, Dyan of Hartley, Iowa, Beverlee Bennett and her friend, Art Tallis of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Jeri Wescott and her husband, Kirk of Hartley, Iowa; four grandchildren: Jasmine (Chad) Schlichte of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Nick (Candy) Roth of Lawton, Iowa, Chris (Debbie) Roth of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Katie (Chris) Matheson of Armstrong, Iowa; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Ardell Garnjobst and his wife, Lotty of Milford, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
