Elmer Duane Strubbe, son of Ernest Herman Wilhelm and Grace Imogene (Ford) Strubbe, was born on October 11, 1930 at Melvin, IA. He lived his youth in the Melvin area, and attended school there.
Elmer served his country with the United States Army from 1952 to 1954; then in the Army Reserves from 1954 to 1960, when he was honorably discharged.
On May 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marsha Olhausen at the home of her parents in Hartley, IA. To this union four children were born: Debra, Terry, Kathy, and Laurie. They made their home in Hartley, eventually moving to the Strubbe family farm near Melvin where Elmer was engaged in farming with his father. Later, Elmer was employed by AMPI in Sanborn, IA, retiring at the age of 62 after 33 years of service.
When he found some free time, Elmer enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, jig-saw puzzles or a good game of cards with his friends. His greatest pleasure came from time spent with his family and grandchildren. Elmer was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sanborn.
