Obituary of Ruth Glazier
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Eloise (Raymond) Glazier, at the age of 98 years, passed into eternity to dance again in the arms of the love of her life, her husband, Russ. She died on what would have been the day after their anniversary, August 21, 2015.
She was born to Ross and Amy (Hakeman) Raymond on a farm outside of Sanborn, IA on March 27, 1917 where she spent her youth. She graduated from Sanborn High School, and after receiving her Normal Training to become a teacher, she taught at the little country school across from the farm where she lived, teaching several of her siblings.
Ruth married Russell D. Glazier on August 20, 1938. Following their marriage, they lived at Sanborn and Melvin, IA prior to farming near Sanborn for eight years. Ruth and Russ then moved into Sanborn where she helped Russ operate his own trucking business. They moved to Sheldon, IA in 1960 where Russ was employed. He retired from Big 4 in 1982. Ruth had also worked part-time at her sister and sister-in-law's clothing store in Sanborn.
After retirement, Russ and Ruth enjoyed doing a lot of camping at the Iowa Great Lakes as well as visiting their children and grandchildren at the Black Hills, in central Iowa, and northern Minnesota.
Russ died on January 6, 2000. Ruth's only hobby was her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and a great cook – following a tradition of great Raymond cooks. Above all, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and in the last four and one-half years of her life, even a great-great-grandmother. She was also a well-loved sister, aunt, and great-aunt. Ruth loved her family, and she adored children.
She is survived by her children: Linda Henning of Wakonda, SD, Andrea Cardin and Melanie Truitt of Sheldon, IA, and Mark and Jane Glazier of Backus, MN; 13 grandchildren: Anita, Robert, Sally, Katie, Mindy, RJ, Ruth Ann, Rachelle, Melissa, Stacie, Laura, Amanda, and Joe; 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Warnke of Sanborn, IA; and many, many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. She was loved by so many.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six of her siblings, and son-in-law, Richard Cardin.
She will always be remembered for her love of birds, especially cardinals, and always kept her bird feeder full. Her abiding philosophy of life was the Native American Prayer: "Great Spirit, grant that I may not criticize my neighbor until I have walked a mile in his moccasins."…and she lived by that. Ruth's devotion and love for her family will remain a cherished memory for those whose lives she touched.
