Memorial Tribute
Ida Jane (Elgersma) Kreykes, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to her Lord and Savior May 5, 2015, following complications from a stroke.
Ida received her elementary education at a country school near Hartley, Iowa. She attended Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa for two years. When Ida’s mother passed away at a young age, Ida took on the responsibility of helping her widowed father raise her brothers.
On January 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harold Kreykes. Harold and Ida farmed near Hartley until 1965 when they moved to Sanborn, Iowa and began Kreykes Trucking. Ida was a faithful helper serving as bookkeeper/secretary for their business. She also served many years as the tuition bookkeeper for the Sanborn Christian School. Ida enjoyed people and always had the door open and the coffee pot on to many who made it a point to stop and visit with her. If not serving coffee at her house, Ida could be found waitressing at Jay’s Restaurant in Sanborn; where she was employed for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 72.
In September 2011, Ida moved to the Prairie View Inn Assisted Living in Sanborn, Iowa. At the time of her death, she resided at Prairie View Nursing Home having lived there since February 2014. Through the joys of her life, as well as the difficult times, her unwavering faith in her Savior carried her through.
She was a member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church. In years gone by she enjoyed mission trips to Port Gibson, Mississippi. She also enjoyed traveling, singing, playing piano, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, and cake decorating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1991; her parents Ernie and Bessie (DeVries) Elgersma; step-mother Anna (Andringa); her five Elgersma brothers, Earl, Gerald, Elmer (in infancy), Eugene, and Kenneth; a sister-in-law Gladys Elgersma; and a son-in-law, Dave DeZeeuw.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Dr. Edwin and Sandra Kreykes of Sanborn, Iowa; Sue and Alvin (French) LeLoux of Rock Valley, Iowa; and Sandi (DeZeeuw) and Rick Koldenhoven of Rock Valley, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
