Obituary of Robert Scholten

Robert G. Scholten, son of Gerhard and Maria (DeValois) Scholten, was born at Hospers, IA on June 17, 1922. He lived his youth around Boyden, IA.
In 1942, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as an instrument flight instructor pilot. On August 30, 1944, he was united in marriage to Pauline Saarloos at DeLand, FL. After his service in the Navy, the couple spent one year on a farm by Boyden, IA, then moved to Ames, IA for six years, while Robert attended Iowa State University; receiving a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine degree.
After completing college, Robert and Pauline moved to Sanborn, IA where he began his veterinarian practice. They resided in Sanborn for 18 years, then relocated to Worthington, MN. From 1976 to 1984 they lived in Artesia, CA, then returned to Sanborn. Robert passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA, on January 4, 2015 at the age of 92.
Robert enjoyed working with animals and tinkering on his farms. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Robert E. Scholten of Bellflower, CA, Rowann (Glenn) Bylsma of Norwalk, CA and their children: Brian Bylsma of Norwalk, CA, and Michelle (Ryan) Moore of Newport Beach, CA, Bruce (Laurie) Scholten of Bellflower, CA and their children: Scott (Gabbi) Scholten of Murfreesboro, TN, and Sara (Steven) Vandermost of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Edna (Kuiken) Frank of Chicago, IL; one brother, Milton Scholten of Des Moines, IA; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Henriet Peterson, Eunice Jelsma, Cornelia (Jean) Scholten, Pearl Scholten; and a brother, Gerhard Scholten.
