Obituary of Nelle Anderson

Nelle LaVonne Anderson, 90, of Royal, IA, passed away July 18, 2014. Nelle, the daughter of Orval W. and Nelle F. (Johnston) Myers was born June 23, 1924 in Estherville, IA. She was united in marriage to Francis Anderson on December 4, 1946 in Jackson, MN. The couple made their home in Estherville where Francis attended flight school, and Nelle worked at Borden Ice Cream Company. They moved to Spencer, IA in 1948, and then to Royal in 1952 where Francis purchased the local grocery store. They owned and operated Andy's Grocery until 1985. Nelle enjoyed playing bingo, doing crosswords and eating out. She enjoyed time spent with her family, grandchildren and friends. For many years she belonged to card club and birthday club with her mother's friends. She was also a longtime member of T.O.P.S. Nelle was a very good cook and put together many wonderful Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. She made the BEST turkey stuffing, excellent gravy and great apple pies. Nelle was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Nelle F. Myers; husband, Francis "Andy" Anderson; daughter, Barbara Jo Anderson; brother, Jack Myers; sister, Muriel Bergesen; granddaughters: Nicole Lucas; great-granddaughter, Hannah Mumm. Nelle is survived by her daughters: Nancy Anderson of Emmetsburg, IA, Vicki and Kent Ficken of Sutherland, IA, Terri and Dennis Gonnerman of Des Moines, IA, and Cheryl and Rick Burgeson of Royal, IA; nine grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal, IA, on Friday, July 25th at 2:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the memorial service at Willow Creek Cemetery near Royal. <iframe id="tukios_player_512x330" allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="330" scrolling="no" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/FPNCQDLT2Q9Y7FT9" width="512"></iframe>
