Obituary of Clarice Meyer

Clarice Adeline Meyer, daughter of Halver H. and Nellie J. (Olson) Berg, was born on September 10, 1912 at Peterson, IA. Two brothers and one sister completed the family. Clarice attended school in Peterson, and graduated with the class of 1930. She continued her education for two years at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. After obtaining her Teaching Certificate, she taught 3rd and 4th grade at Excelsior, IA for the next two years.
In 1937, Clarice was united in marriage to Homer W. Pitcher. They lived in Spencer, IA and operated the "Pitcher Flower Shop" there for 15 years. While in Spencer, Clarice also worked as a substitute teacher. Homer passed away in 1962, and soon after, Clarice sold the flower shop. She was employed for two and one-half years as the receptionist for Dr. Hooven, Optometrist, then worked at the Clay County Bank as a teller for six and one-half years.
On June 6, 1970, Clarice married Orville F. Meyer. They farmed north of Sutherland, IA until retiring in 1979, at which time they moved to the town of Hartley, IA. Together, they enjoyed 27 winters in Apache Junction, AZ until Orville's passing in February, 2005.
Clarice enjoyed tending her flowers, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Her free time was spent at card parties or dancing. She was always game for new experiences, and loved traveling. Clarice was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley and the Dorcas Society.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Steward of Jasper, GA; two sisters-in-law, LaVerne Niebuhr of Paullina, IA, and Lucile Meyer of Sutherland, IA; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Halver and Nellie Berg; husbands, Homer W. Pitcher and Orville F. Meyer; and brothers, Harold and Norman Berg.
