Joyce Ada (Raymond) Petrich, the daughter of Ross and Amy (Hakeman) Raymond was born on June 4, 1920 in Sanborn, IA. She lived the majority of her lifetime in Sanborn, IA and attended Sanborn Public School, graduating in 1937.
On June 29, 1938, Joyce was united in marriage to F. Willis Petrich in Elk Point, SD. To this union five children were born: Ward, Bruce, Scott, Jan and Meg. Following their marriage, the couple farmed together and raised their family in the Sanborn area. Joyce was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. One of her main jobs on the family farm was canning all of the produce from Willis’s garden. She often helped Willis in his agriculture-related businesses. Joyce moved to Sisseton, SD to be closer to her daughters, and passed away there on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the age of 93.
Joyce was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and enjoyed the church activities. Her family meant the world to her and she always had time to sit and listen for as long as you needed to talk. Joyce’s hobbies included bowling and playing cards. She was always grateful for the good friends in her life.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Ward (Cheryl) Petrich of Marco Island, FL, Bruce (Marj) Petrich of Hammett, ID, Scott (Norene) Petrich of Storm Lake, IA, Jan (Ed) Babcock of Lake City, SD and Meg (Gerard) Zach of New Effington, SD; 14 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth Glazier of Sheldon, IA and Harriet Warnke of Sanborn, IA; other relatives and many friends.
