Obituary of Grace Buren

Grace Buren, the daughter of Albert and Sadie (Hoekstra) Vogel, was born at Orange City, IA on June 5, 1917. She lived her youth around the Orange City and Sheldon, IA area were she received her education at the Sheldon Christian School. On February 14, 1940, Grace was united in marriage to Adrian Herman Buren at Sheldon, IA. The couple were blessed with four children: Sharon, Everett, Albert, and Carolyn. Following their marriage the couple farmed together in the Boyden and Sheldon area for 37 years. The couple retired in 1978 and moved into the town of Sheldon. Adrian passed away on March 22, 2004. Grace moved in 2006 to the Beehive in Sheldon and eventually moved to the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care Center in 2013 were she lived until her passing on March 31, 2013 at the age of 95. Grace was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon for many years. She loved crocheting, sewing, cooking, and baking especially “Grandma Bars” Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sharon and Lloyd Baker of Ashton, IA., Everett (Ev) and Phyllis Buren, Albert (Al) and Julie Buren all of Sheldon, IA, and Carolyn and Robert Vander Pol of Sibley, IA, 11 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 14 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; one sister: Martha De Jong of Hull, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson: Ryan Buren; brother: Frank (Margaret) Vogel; sisters: Tillie (Joe) Brummel; Tena (Bill) Leusink; in-law’s: Tom De Jong, Herman (Marie) Buren, and Beulah (Werner) Lode.
