Dolores Darlene Rieck, the daughter of Howard and Alice (Lawson) Kinkade was born on August 16, 1930, in Milford, IA. She lived her early years in the Milford and Spirit Lake area. Dee attended school there and graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1948. Following her graduation she moved with her mother to Michigan where she worked as a payroll clerk.
She was united in marriage to Francis Edward Rieck on December 26, 1954 at May City, IA. To this union two children were born; a daughter, Sue, and a son, David. Following their marriage the couple lived on the family farm right outside of May City. In the beginning Dee helped out on the farm and later took a job at the Melvin Savings Bank until retiring to take care of her first grandchild. In 1985 the couple moved off the farm to Spencer where she worked for Del’s Garden Center and later Northwest Federal Bank in Spencer. The couple moved to Hartley in 2005 to be closer to their son and continue to help on the farm. Following a short illness Dee passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer at the age of 82.
In her younger years she loved to dance and listen to music, especially Hank Williams, Jr. Dee loved making hand crafted gifts, mending clothes and quilts for her family. Putting puzzles together was one of her favorite past times. Dee especially enjoyed spending time and visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
