Donald Coray Denny, the son of Coray and Margaret (Baumeister) Denny, was born April 10, 1927 in Hartley, IA. He attended country school at Hartley #2, he furthered his education at Hartley High School until November 21, 1945 when he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country until was honorably discharged on January 31, 1947.
On February 23, 1950 Donald was united in marriage to Jean Rietsma at the Methodist Parsonage in Worthington, MN. To this union two children were born a daughter Karen and a son Bruce. Following their marriage Donald and Jean rented a farm west of Moneta for a year. The following year they moved to a farm north of Hartley where they lived for 17 years. In 1966 they moved to the farm where they currently have resided and retired at. Donald passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the age of 85.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Farming was a passion of Donald’s, and he loved caring for the land. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald is survived by his wife Jean of 62 years; his children: Karen Manley and her husband, Tom, of Spencer, IA, and Bruce Denny and his wife, Kathy, of Hartley, IA; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother: Gilbert Denny and his wife, Donna, of Hartley, IA; sister’s: Ruth Philiph of Ocheyedan, IA and Jane Lorch and her husband, David, of May City, IA, other relatives and friends.
