Obituary of Lorene Hartmann

Lorene (Riessen) Hartmann the daughter of Paul and Agnes (Dittmer) Riessen was born on August 27, 1915 at Hartley, Iowa. She spent her childhood years living on a farm in Lincoln Township and attended country school, which was located about two miles from her home, through her eighth grade year. She then attended Hartley High School where she graduated in 1933. Following her graduation she continued to live at home with her parents and held jobs which included cleaning homes in Hartley, working at Meiske’s Produce, and then later keeping books for Worthmore Produce in Hartley. On January 15, 1944 she was united in marriage to Amos Hartmann in the Everly Lutheran Church Parsonage. Following their marriage they lived on a farm located northeast of Hartley. In 1953 they purchased a farm which is now owned by Ray and Donna Ahlers, on which they lived and raised their two sons Terry and Rick. In 1969 they moved to Hartley where Lorene continued to live until 2003 when she entered Community Memorial Assisted Living. She passed away at Community Memorial Health Center on February 28, 2012. Lorene was an excellent card player and particularly enjoyed the games of bridge, 500 and Benny. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Hartley. Lorene is survived by her two sons Terry (Carol) Hartmann and Rick (Deb) Hartmann both of Minneapolis, MN, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Amos, sister Luverna Meehlhause, and brother Raymond Riessen.
