Obituary of Tom McNally

Thomas James Francis McNally, the son of Maurice and Mary Ellen (Donohue) McNally was born on February 12, 1955 in Holyoke, MA. He lived his childhood years in Massachusetts and later proudly served his county in the United States Army as a Vehicle Tank Recovery Commander, with the 2nd Engineer Battalion; 2nd Infantry Division.. On September 18, 1982 Tom was united in marriage to Debra Darlene Towne in Anchorage, AK. To this union three children were born Shannon, Ian and Clancy. While living in Alaska Tom worked as a Gold Miner and a Union Overhead Sprinkler Fitter. The family moved to Hartley, IA in 1988. Tom continued working at Stylecraft Furniture in Milford, IA for 15 years. Following a short illness Tom passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, on January 24, 2012 at the age of 56. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 29 years, Debra of Hartley, IA,; their children: Shannon McNally of Asheville, NC, Ian McNally of Cedar Falls, IA and Clancy McNally of Hartley, IA; two brothers: Tim and Bill McNally both of Holyoke, MA; three sisters: Jody McNally of Holyoke, MA, Ellin Mann and her special friend, Marty, of Holyoke, MA, and Nancy Smolarz and her husband, Larry, of Springfield, MA; two brothers-in-law: Jeff Towne and his wife, Lori, of Milford, IA, Larry Towne and his wife, Angie, of Hartley, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Tom was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Hartley, IA. He was an outdoorsman at heart, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Hunter Towne.
