Obituary of Marvel Appleton

Memorial Tribute Marvel Lucille (Chrisman) Appleton was born on August 17, 1914, in Sanborn, IA. She lived her youth in Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School May of 1932. Marvel was the last surviving member of the class of 1932. On October 28, 1933, she was united in marriage to Leo Anderson at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Spencer, IA. To this union one son was born, Richard LaMont Anderson. Following their marriage the couple lived in Sanborn. They moved for a short time to West Bend, IA and returned to Sanborn for the rest of their lives. She worked for Shanahan Dry Goods Store for 10 years. Leo passed away on November 6, 1977. Marvel was united in marriage to Robert Appleton on September 1, 1979 at the United Methodist Church in Sanborn, IA. The couple lived in Sanborn for 25 years. Marvel moved to the Prairie View Manor in December of 2004 shortly after Bob had moved into the Prairie View Nursing Home. Robert passed away on January 14, 2005. Marvel later moved to the Prairie View Campus Nursing Home Wing and passed away there on January 14, 2012 at the age of 97. It was seven years to the day that Bob had passed away. She enjoyed reading when she was younger and was known for baking and having a cookie jar that was open to the neighborhood children. She loved spending time with family and friends, but especially her grandchildren. Bob and Marvel attended most of their school activities and dance programs. Marvel was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in which she held several offices. She was also a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Sanborn. She will truly be missed by those left to cherish her memory. Step-sons: Norman Appleton of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, Lowell Appleton and his wife, Karen, of Sanborn, IA; grandchildren: Susanne Christiansen and her husband Ken, of Ayshire, IA; William Appleton and his wife, Linda, of Post Falls, ID, Mindy Appleton Quesda, of Peekskill, NY, Elizabeth Appleton and her husband, Sean Peterson, of Washington, DC, Abigail Appleton of Cairo, Egypt, Amalie Appleton of Sanborn, IA; great grandchildren: Jeff, Brent, and Anne Golladay; Alexis and William Appleton of Post Falls, ID, Caitlin and Marcia Quazada of Peekskill, NY; sister-in-law Bonnie Vollink and her husband, Gilbert, of Archer, IA; two nephews: Scott Chrisman of Sanborn, IA and Glenn Chrisman III of Sheldon, IA; other relatives and friends.
