Obituary of Rex Beckman

Rex Boyd Beckman, the son of Emma (Bornholdt) and Clarence Beckman, was born in Melvin, Iowa on February 21, 1925. His childhood years were spent in Melvin where he graduated from Melvin Public High School. He then proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946, mainly aboard the U.S.S. Ingraham.
On December 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Schaffer. The couple made their home in Melvin. Rex began driving an oil tank wagon truck for the Melvin Standard Station, and continued doing so until his retirement. Marjorie passed away on July 20, 2008, after which Rex continued living at their home in Melvin.
Rex was a member of the American Lutheran church in Melvin, the Melvin American Legion Guthrie Post #470, and a former member of the Melvin Volunteer Fire Department. Rex’s family will remember his enjoyment of fishing, golfing and solving puzzles. Among other pastimes, he attended community activities and local high school sporting events. Following a brief illness, Rex passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa, on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the age of 86.
Left to cherish his memory is daughter, Sally Watterson; grandchildren, Eric Watterson and Tricia and her husband, Justin Miller; and great-grandson, Max Miller, all of Sioux Falls; sister, Avis and her husband, Richard Dvorak of Melvin, and brother, Alan Beckman and his wife Billie of Manning, SC; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, and brothers Clay and Gene.
