Please share a memory of Alvina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvina Erna (Rieck) Fredericks, the daughter of Ernst and Martha (Sass) Rieck, was born in Gaza, Iowa, on February 9, 1920. Her childhood years were spent in the Hartley, Iowa, area, where she later graduated from high school.
She was united in marriage to Wilbert J. Fredericks on September 6, 1944 at Spencer, Iowa. They made their home in Hartley where Wilbert was self-employed and Alvina took care of the home and their three children, Dianna, Sherri and Mark.
Alvina loved to garden and bake. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. At one point, she did volunteer work at the nursing home in Hartley. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.
As her health began to decline, Alvina moved to Spirit Lake, IA to be closer to her daughter. She passed away at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the age of 91.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbert; two brothers, Ernest and Harry Rieck; two sisters, Gertrude Jensen and Viola Rieck; and a granddaughter.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Dianna and Russ Sopeland of Scottsdale, AZ, Sherri and Brad Munster of Lake Park, IA, and Mark and Teri Fredericks of Hartley, IA; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Alvin Rieck of Hartley; her sister, Ida Tesch of Neosho, MO; other relatives and friends.
