Obituary of Harm Kruse

Harm Mienart Kruse, the son of Otto and Christina (Hollander) Kruse, was born on August 1, 1916, near Victor, South Dakota. He grew up in South Dakota, and moved to Iowa with his family in 1935. He graduated from Everly High School in Everly, Iowa, in 1938. In 1948, he moved to Hartley, Iowa where he helped his father on the farm, and did lawn maintenance and other odd jobs. He was a hired farmhand for Cloy Hirt for many years.
Harm enjoyed helping other people, especially with yard work—whether it was mowing, raking or scooping snow. He had a good sense of humor. He was an avid reader, and faithfully did daily readings that took him through the entire Bible in a year. He attended the United Methodist Church in Hartley, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He also attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Spencer, IA. He was a member of the Lion's Club.
Following a long struggle with dementia, Harm passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on April 9, 2011, at the age of 94.
He was preceded in death by is parents; one sister, Katrina Kruse; two brothers-in-law, Ernie Spang and Harold Hahn.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his sisters, Daisy Hahn of Hartley, IA, and Edna (George) Gunderson of Minneapolis, MN; his niece, Elsie (David) Bernhardt of Coulter, IA; great nephews Jon (Kathie) Bernhardt and son Jacob, and Dan (Rachel) Bernhardt.
