Obituary of Alvera Wingerson

Alvera Margaret (Hessenius) Wingerson, the daughter of Dietrich and Margaret (Herbst) Hessenius, was born on April 4, 1928, in Laurens, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Laurens, IA, where she graduated from the Laurens High School.
She was united in marriage to George Wingerson on December 1, 1946 in San Francisco, CA. In 1957 the couple moved to St. Louis, Mo, where Alvera worked as a secretary while George attended dental school. Following his graduation in 1961, they moved to Hartley, IA and set up a dental practice. Alvera was the Office Administrator for the business. After 29 years, they retired and moved to Okoboji, IA. George passed away in 1992. Alvera moved to Wel-Life in Spirit Lake, IA in 2007. In December of 2010, she moved to the Milford Nursing Center in Milford, IA, where she passed away on February 9, 2011 at the age of 82.
Alvera enjoyed needlepoint and latch-hook, bird watching, fishing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake and the Hartley Card Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; an infant son, Mark; two sisters, Helen Tullis and Luella Carter; and three brothers, Walter Hessenius, Willard Hessenius and Arnold Hessenius.
She is survived by her children and their families: Monty Wingerson of Manila, Philippines, Robin and Tate Leland of Arnolds Park, IA, and Daron Wingerson of Coon Rapids, MN; a granddaughter, Amy and a grandson Erik; a sister, Irene Pierce, and a sister-in-law, Augustina Hessenius, both of Emmetsburg, IA.
