Obituary of Delbert Sittler

Delbert Wayne Sittler, the son of Walter and Priscilla (Donnenwerth) Sittler, was born on a farm near May City, Iowa, on March 19, 1920. He spent his childhood years on the Sittler family farm, eight miles northeast of Hartley. He attended country school in Osceola County. Delbert lived in Denver, CO where he worked at the Gates Rubber Company for one year. He then returned to Iowa and worked on the family farm. On March 29, 1948, he married Joyce Adams in the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. To this union two children were born, Dennis and Darla. Following their marriage the couple lived on the family farm near May City, where they were engaged in farming together. While maintaining the family farm, Delbert also did custom corn shelling and combining. In 1980, the couple retired from farming and moved to Hartley, Iowa. Delbert passed away at the Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, Iowa on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the age of 90. Delbert enjoyed playing cards, visiting with his buddies downtown, tinkering in the garage and helping others on the farm—even after retiring. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Priscilla Sittler, and one brother, Donald Sittler. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce, his son, Dennis Sittler of Hartley, and his daughter Darla Petersen of Woodland Park, Colorado; two grandchildren, Jamie Petersen and Trevor Petersen also of Woodland Park; three sisters, Hazel Rons of Hartley, Nancy (Donald) Selby of Bellevue, Nebraska and Joyce Fahlenkamp of Lake Park, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
