Obituary of Elsie Kuyper
Please share a memory of Elsie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elsie Irene (Mars) Kuyper was born on November 3, 1918 to Mindred and Jessie (Kroese) Mars. Her father passed away when Elsie was an infant. She and her mother lived with her mother’s parents and family during Elsie’s childhood, when Elsie attended country school. Elsie’s mother later remarried to Abe Hoffman.
She was married to Kenneth Hubert Kuyper on November 21, 1945, and gave birth to two children, Kenneth Harold and Joyce Irene. She worked as a dental assistant and bookkeeper for Dr. Shanahan before becoming a fulltime homemaker after her children were born. She lived her entire life in Sanborn, where she attended First Reformed Church and was an active member of the RCW Women’s Guild and Circles. She loved having coffee with friends and enjoyed many years of card club with other church members and family friends. Elsie was well known for cooking and baking, and her family cherishes many of her personal recipes. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her pies and cookies.
Elsie is survived by her children, Vern and Joyce (Kuyper) Wallinga of Sanborn and Kenneth and Marylin Kuyper of Dakota City, IA. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Mike and Meagan Wallinga, and their children Abigail and Allison; Mike and Ethanie (Wallinga) Pulscher and their children, Ellea and Alec; Kent and Melissa Wallinga, Jessica Kuyper, Kessandra Kuyper, and Kenneth Harlan Kuyper. She is also survived by other close relatives, and many family friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and many dear uncles, aunts, cousins, and two nephews.
