Obituary of Evelyn Timmons

Evelyn Mae (Benz) Timmons, the daughter of Thomas and Johanna (Rudloff) Benz, was born in Osceola County at Melvin, Iowa on May 30, 1921. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She spent her childhood years in Melvin, attended the local elementary school, and graduated from Melvin High School. She later attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. On December 7, 1941 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Timmons of Ocheyedan, Iowa. They spent five years of their married life in Ocheyedan and 31 years on a farm north and east of Melvin. In November, 1982 she and her husband retired into Melvin. Robert passed away in May of 1993. Evie continued living in her home in Melvin until August of 2008 when she moved to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa. She passed away there on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the age of 89. Evie was an excellent cook, and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and her friends. She was a very social person, and belonged to many area organizations and clubs. One such club, the "Sewing Circle", was a club that did more card playing than sewing! She was one of the original members that started the circle more than 50 years ago. During their later years, Evie and Bob spent 12 winters in Texas. They formed many friendships over those years. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Melvin, the ALCW, and taught Sunday School. She was also active in the Federated Women's Club, and was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Evie will be remembered for opening her home to others. The coffee pot was always on. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Tom (Joene) Timmons of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Joleen (Mike) Seivert of Hartley, Iowa, Phil (Brenda) Timmons of Hartley, Iowa and Nancy (Steve) Travaille of Melvin; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dawn Semancik, and her daughters Lauren and Rachel, Brent Seivert and son, Blake, Michele (Matt) McKinney, and their children Anna and William, Treven (Tiffany) Wallace and daughter, Adelynn, Brad Timmons, Mike Travaille, and Bridget Timmons (fiancée, Michael Raveling); one brother, Edward Benz of Laurens, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, one brother, John, and a son-in-law, Craig Wallace.
