Obituary of Dawn Hungerford
Please share a memory of Dawn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dawn Renee` (Schroeck) Hungerford, the daughter of Charles and Marilyn (Hanson) Schroeck, was born on June 19, 1968 in Mankato, Minnesota. She received her early education in Sanborn, Iowa, where she graduated from Sanborn Public High School in 1986 and from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor’s degree in 1990 and a Master’s degree in 1998.
On August 14, 2004, Dawn married Duke Hungerford at the Lutheran Lakeside Bible Camp in Spirit Lake Iowa. They made their home in Eagan, Minnesota, where Dawn was employed as a Director of Account Management at Stay Well Health Management, a corporate wellness firm.
She loved sports and the outdoors including bicycling, hiking, boating, skiing, camping in their VW, and cheering on the Vikings. She traveled extensively for her job, and also took many personal vacations, including trips to Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico, and Alaska. She was especially fond of the Okoboji area and spent as much time there with friends and family as their busy schedule would allow.
Dawn had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Easter Lutheran Church in Eagan, Minnesota.
On May 27, 2009, Duke and Dawn were blessed with the birth of their son, Jace Daniel, who was the light of Dawn’s life. She cherished every moment she was able to spend with him, her husband Duke, and their faithful companion, Sam.
Dawn was a vibrant, positive person with a strong determination who fought her year-long cancer battle with dignity and courage. She was an inspiration to many people, many of whom she had never met. She was called to her eternal home on August 8, 2010, at the age of 42.
She is survived by her husband, Duke Hungerford and son, Jace Daniel Hungerford, of Eagan, Minnesota; parents Charles and Marilyn Schroeck of Arnolds Park, IA; sisters Sandra (Rob) Hannig of Garland, TX, and Jody (Dave) Vogt of Savage, MN. She is also survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Don and Marla Hungerford of Hull, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dana and Steve Olson of Omaha, NE and nephews Jacob Vogt, Mike Olson, and Nick Olson, and niece Madison Vogt, along with many treasured friends.
Dawn was preceded in death by grandparents, Joseph and Myrtle Hanson, and Roland and Gladys Schroeck.
