Memorial Tribute
Dale Dean “Buzz” Peters, the son of Emil and Stella (Gosch) Peters, was born on a farm near Everly, Iowa on June 29, 1930. He grew up in the Hartley area. He first attended country school, and then graduated from Hartley High School.
He entered into military duty on September 26, 1950, serving with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was captured and held prisoner by the enemy for 2½ years. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1953.
On April 26, 1954, he married Marilyn West at Hartley, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Hartley, and have lived there ever since. They were blessed with two children, Debbie and Kelley. In addition to farming, Buzz also worked at the Spencer Packing Plant from 1960 until 1974. He drove truck and did other odd jobs through the years. He worked with his son in the construction business for 20 years, and often joked that he was “the founder” of the business.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hartley, the Hartley American Legion, VFW, and the Korean War Ex-POW Association. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting old pens and pencils, old coins, and caps.
Following years of struggling with his health, Buzz died peacefully with his family at his side, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa, on Friday, March 26, 2010. He had reached the age of 79 years, 9 months, 25 days.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marilyn; his children, Debbie (Jim) Leonard of Omaha, NE, and Kelley Peters (Rachel) of Hartley; his grandsons, Chris (Allison) Rosenboom of Birmingham, AL, and Dalen Peters of Hartley; one sister, Joyce Jenkins of Hartley; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Darrell Peters, and one brother-in-law, Warren Jenkins.
