Obituary of Dorothy Tewes
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Eva (Diekmann) Tewes, the daughter of Fritz and Amanda (Nagel) Diekmann, was born on August 9, 1929 on a farm near Hartley, Iowa. She lived at this home her entire life, except for the last eighteen months, which she spent at the Primghar Care Center in Primghar, Iowa. She attended the Hartley Public School, and graduated in 1948. In high school, her love of basketball flourished, and in her senior year she was selected as the first team guard on the state tournament team. After graduation she worked as a secretary in the Hartley school system.
On September 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lester Tewes. They made their home on a farm east of Hartley where they spent their life farming. To this union four children were born, Glenda, Karen, Kevin and Jerry.
Dorothy was an excellent baker and also enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. After her family was raised she became active in church activities. She held various offices in the church, the Dorcas Society, and was an active member of the Friday Club. Dorothy enjoyed many hours playing cards with various clubs, and reading a good book. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy passed away at the Primghar Care Center on March 25, 2010, at the age of 80.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Lester; her children, Glenda Tewes of Hartley, Karen and Phil Scott of Aurora, CO, Kevin and Jean Tewes, and Jerry and Sheri Tewes, all of Hartley; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward.
