Obituary of Rita Hulley

Rita Ann (Dolphin) Hulley, the daughter of George and Edna (Block) Dolphin, was born near Archer, Iowa on August 16, 1937. She spent her childhood years in the Archer and Sanborn areas, and attended the local public schools. On December 5, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Hulley. They made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. The following years proved very busy for Bob and Rita, as they raised their five children: Brian, Brad, Jeff, Laura and Mike. During their marriage, Rita worked as a cook for several restaurants in Sheldon. Bob passed away on August 21, 2002. Rita continued to live in Sheldon until her own health began to fail. In the fall of 2009, she moved to Hartley, Iowa, with her son, Mike. She passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. She was 72. Besides being a wonderful cook and famous for her delicious pies, Rita will be affectionately remembered by her family as an avid sports fan. Not only did she enjoy watching her children participate in sports, she also excelled at many of the games herself. Her children had to work very hard to keep from getting beat by their mom at most sports. Among her favorites were basketball, bowling, ping pong and fishing. Rita loved listening to any gospel songs sung by Elvis Presley. She created many beautiful things with “Pretty Punch” embroidery. At one time she and Bob had been members of the Eagles’ Club in Sheldon. She is survived by her children and their families: Brian (Cindy) Hulley of Boyden, IA, Brad of Sheldon, IA, Jeff (Mindi) of Boyden, IA, Laura (Robert) Posey of Nebraska, and Mike Hulley of Hartley, IA; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother Steve (Denise) Dolphin of Winnemucca, NV and one sister, Pam (Vern) Hurtig of Hewitt, MN; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Larry Dolphin, and Jack Dolphin, who also passed away on Sunday February 28, 2010, and a grandson, Michael.
