James D. Ver Mulm, the son of Case and Jennie (Van Iperen) Ver Mulm, was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa on March 31, 1926. He grew up in the Alton and Ashton, Iowa areas. He received his early education in country school, and attended high school in Newkirk, IA. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1950 until 1952.
On November 14, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Arlene Den Hartog at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, IA. The couple farmed near Sheldon and Ashton until 1965 when they moved to a farm they purchased near Hartley, Iowa. In 1988, they retired from farming and moved into Sanborn.
Jim was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn, IA, where he had served as Elder for many years, and was a long-time Sunday school teacher for the young people. He was a member of the American Legion and was on the Board of Directors at Inspiration Hills. He enjoyed playing golf and pool, going on bus tours, and camping. He took great pride and joy in attending his grandchildren’s activities. Jim passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center on January 18, 2010 at the age of 83.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Sanborn; one son, Steve Ver Mulm and his wife, Kathy of LeMars, Iowa; four grandchildren: Seth Ver Mulm and his wife, Missy and their children, Makayla and Jonah of Sioux Falls, SD, Kristi Ver Mulm of Ames, IA, Brent Ver Mulm and his fiancé, Tracy den Blaauwen of Davenport, Iowa, and Jaclyn Ver Mulm at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa; one brother, Marion Ver Mulm and his wife, Joyce of Spencer, Iowa; many other relatives and friends.
