Magdelena “Madeline” Dinah (Havert) Haak, the daughter of Mary (Kotvis) and Isaac Havert, was born in Sodus, New York on April 22, 1926, where she also spent her childhood years. She attended school at Sodus High School, and graduated in 1944. She earned an Associate Business Degree from Rochester Business Institute in Rochester, New York in 1946. Madeline was united in marriage to Rev. William J. Haak on July 12, 1947 at First Reformed Church in Sodus. To this union three children were born: Mary Ann, Marilyn and Robert. Following their marriage Madeline worked in the financial aid office at Hope College while Bill was attending Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. In addition to being a mother and a homemaker, Madeline served with her husband as a faithful partner in his pastoral ministry at Grant, Michigan, Sanborn, Iowa, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Archer, Iowa. She passed away at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa on Friday, December 11, 2009. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn, RCA Women’s Ministries, and Prairie View Auxiliary & Resident Council. Madeline loved being a grandma and great-grandma. She enjoyed doing ceramics, doing word puzzles, and playing games with her family and friends. She was small in stature, but always lived her faith in a giant way. She was a daily prayer warrior for her family, friends, and anyone else in need. Survivors include her three children: Mary Ann Grooters and her husband, Glenn, of Sanborn, Iowa, Marilyn Haak of Redlands, California, and Robert Haak and his wife, Pam of Spencer, Iowa; five grandchildren: David Grooters and his wife, April of Sanborn, Julie Roos and her husband, Kory of Matlock, Iowa, Matthew Haak of Cedar Falls, Iowa, John Haak and his wife, Shelby of Spencer, Iowa, and Brian Haak of Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren: Olivia and Morgan Grooters, Jacob, Jarrett, and Kolton Roos, Trey Haak and Gretchen Haak; one brother, Henry Havert and his wife, Thelma of Painted Post, New York; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, and two sisters and their husbands, Sarah and Hubert Schoonhagen, and Kay and John Kouwe. In Loving Memory Of Madeline D.
