Obituary of Elaine Olson

Memorial Tribute Elaine Carole (Rohrs) Olson, the daughter of Helmet and Mabel (Clark) Rohrs, was born in Sheldon, Iowa on June 16, 1931. She grew up in the Northwest Iowa areas of Paullina, Calumet, Larrabee and Sanborn. She graduated from Sanborn Community High School. On November 26, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert Henry Olson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn. They made their home and raised their three children, Barbara, Bradley and Brenda in Sanborn. She was a long-time employee of the Sanborn Savings Bank, although her childhood dream was to be a gravel truck driver. Elaine loved her dogs—particularly Rosebud and Mitzee. She was happiest playing a great game of Pitch, surrounded by her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her dear friend, Sally Knowlton, with whom she would play Gin for hours at a time. Other hobbies included cooking, golf, bowling and entertaining. Following a relatively sudden decline in her health, Elaine passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital on October 6, 2009 at the age of 78. She was considered “the rock” of her family, and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her children and their families: Barbara Pry of Sanborn, Bradley Olson and his wife Amy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Brenda and her husband, Michael Noll of McHenry, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donnie Rohrs of California and a sister Kay (John) Hicks of Florida; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
