Obituary of Delbert Schultz
Please share a memory of Delbert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Delbert Dean Schultz, the son of Albert and Louise (Roth) Schultz was born in Ocheyedan, Iowa on June 3, 1937. He spent his childhood years in the May City area. He attended country school through the 8th grade, and went on to graduate from the Melvin Consolidated School in 1955. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955 through 1957.
On October 19, 1957 Delbert was united in marriage to Marlene Dahlman at St. John's Lutheran Church in May City. When they were first married, the couple farmed northeast of Melvin, and then settled near May City, where they farmed for 29 years. They continued living on that same farm.
Beginning in 1991, Del was employed with BSI until just before their closing, and then worked for a short time at Northern Iowa Die Casting. He was currently driving truck for D&K Trucking. He passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 while doing one of his favorite things-going for a drive with his dog. He was 71.
Del enjoyed traveling and driving his antique cars. He loved to dance. His greatest joy was the love for his family-especially his grandchildren and his dogs. He was a "people person" who made friends wherever he went. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Fellowship Club, and the Melvin American Legion.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marlene; his daughters and their families: Denise and Loran Anderson and their son Reed of May City, DeAnn Schultz of Creston, Iowa, and Brenda Schultz and her daughters Nicole and April of Fostoria, Iowa; one sister Bernice Strelow of Naperville, Illinois; his mother-in-law Laura Dahlman; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Clarence Dahlman and sister-in-law Cheryl Thiele.
