Obituary of Dorothy Irving

Memorial Tribute Dorothy Bernice Irving, the daughter of George A. and Jessie (Burlingame) Irving, was born in Sanborn, IA on August 1, 1909. She was raised in Sanborn and graduated from the Sanborn High School in 1927. She worked at the O’Brien County Courthouse for three years, and was then secretary for the Sanborn Public School until 1947. Later that same year, she took the position of Sanborn City Clerk. She retired in 1971. Dorothy spent her later years living at Lake Okoboji, IA and Harlingen, TX until returning to Sanborn in 2000. She became a resident at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in October of 2003. She passed away at Prairie View on February 21, 2009 at the age of 99. She was a former member of the Eastern Star. Hobbies included gardening, reading, poetry, fishing, and golfing. It was important to Dorothy to be a “loving aunt” to her nieces. Survivors include her nieces and their families: Genevieve Kapsch of Mitchell, SD; Colleen Lowery of Sanborn; Shirley Berry of Belton, MO; Ardith Forbes of Dell Rapids, SD; and June Kolmann of Parkston, SD. Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and six brothers. Celebrating a life… Dorothy B.
