Obituary of Maynard Hofman

Maynard Hofman, the son of Abe and Katrina (Zonnefeld) Hofman, was born May 16, 1924 at Sanborn, Iowa. He attended Sanborn country school and Sanborn Christian School. On December 2, 1944 Maynard enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Philippines for two years being discharged on November 25, 1946.
He was united in Marriage to Gert Alons on April 9, 1945 at the Sheldon Christian Reformed Church. Following their marriage the couple was engaged in farming together for many years. The couple was blessed with five children: Karen, Brad, Marlyn, Gary and Lynda.
He served on the AMPI Creamery Board for many years. Maynard was a charter member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn. He served as an elder, deacon, and head usher.
On April 14, 2008 Maynard moved to the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn and passed away there on November 19, 2008 at the age of 84.
He enjoyed woodworking, especially making things for his grandchildren and doing odd jobs for neighbors and friends. In the summer time he loved to spend the day mowing the lawn on his favorite lawn mower.
Survivors include his wife Gert, of 63 years; five children: Karen (Forrest) Ross of Canton, SD, Brad (Marlys) Hofman of Hull, IA, Marlyn (Alvina) Hofman of Sanborn, IA, Gary (Carol) Hofman of Sioux Falls, SD, Lynda (Rollie) Vander Eide of Fulton, IL; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters: Elsie (Bill) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA and Tillie (Harry E.) Bosma of Sanborn, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dick; two sisters: Agnes Uittenbogaard and Arlene Krikke; and a great grandson: Dawson Gulker.
