Memorial Tribute
Raymond Richard Sipma was born on June 13, 1915 near Sanborn, IA, the son of Dick and Florence (Elgersma) Sipma. He lived his early years in the Sanborn area, attending country school. Following his school years, Ray worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country for 41 months during WWII in the South Pacific as an Infantry soldier.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Dykstra on June 9, 1946 in Ocheyedan, IA. Ray and Catherine were married for 62 years and were blessed with nine children: Arvilla, Loren, Harlan, Wayne, Calvin, Vern, Rodney, Ronald and Delwyn. Following their marriage, the couple were engaged in farming near Melvin for 10 years, and Slayton, MN for 20 years. In 1979, upon retiring and moving to Worthington, MN, they became members of Solid Rock Assembly of God Church. On October 22, 2008 Ray passed away at the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, MN at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Gertrude DeGroot.
Survivors include his wife Catherine; his children and their families: Arvilla and Jim Olthuis, Doug and Chris of Ontario, Canada, Loren Sipma of Worthington, MN, Harlan Sipma of Pipestone, MN, Wayne Sipma of Willmar, MN, Calvin and Julie Sipma, Krista, Kyle, Elijah, and Mandy, Madilyn, Langdon of Prior Lake, MN, Vern Sipma, Brianna, Daniel, Maxwell, Raina and Braxton and of Clara City, MN, Rodney and Sylvia Sipma and Sarah of Lake Forest, CA, Ronald and Shelly Sipma and Jamie of Alvord, IA, and Delwyn and Lauri Sipma, Joshua and David of Minnetonka, MN.
