Obituary of Lenore Romey

Lenore Kathryn (McSheehy) Romey was born at Boone, Iowa on November 13, 1917. She was adopted by Edwin and Alice (Bittle) McSheehy on Christmas Eve, 1917 at Lake View, Iowa. She grew up and received her education in Lake View. She married G. Wendell Romey on May 13, 1939 at Lake View. Before moving to Hartley in 1941, the couple lived in both Sibley and Peterson, Iowa. They relocated to Neosho, Missouri during World War II, and then returned to Hartley in 1946. They were blessed with four daughters: Mary Jo, Marsha, Karen and Wendy. Through the years, Lenore held several positions in Hartley, most notably in the kitchen at the Hartley Elementary School and in the housekeeping department at the Community Memorial Health Center Mann Wing. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the Hartley Hospital Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary, and the Order of Eastern Star. Lenore enjoyed sewing and making quilts for family and friends. She loved old movies, watching the birds, and was fortunate to have visited her daughters in Texas and Alaska numerous times. Wendell passed away in 1973, and Lenore continued to live at home in Hartley until June, 2008, when she entered the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley. She remained there until her death on October 18, 2008, at the age of 90. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and their families: JoAnne Mandel of Houston, TX, Karen and Lynn Henderson of Anchorage, AK, and Wendy Ferguson of Houston, TX. In addition, Lenore had six grandchildren: Gina Duncan, Erin Orzeck, Jason Lindgren, Travis Feddersen, Johanna Nowak and Jennifer Ball; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wendell, and her daughter Marsha. A Celebration of Life Lenore K.
