Memorial Tribute
Cornelia Jane (Pruissen) Schiphoff, the daughter of Gerrit and Sadie (Post) Pruissen, was born at Lake Park, IA on July 15, 1919. She lived her youth in the Lake Park area attending rural schools, Lake Park Consolidated, and Harris Consolidated, where she graduated in 1937. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, and taught in rural country schools in Iowa for 8 years. While her fiancé, Albert, was serving in the Pacific during WWII, she also worked in an ammunition plant in Racine, WI to help the war effort.
Corie was united in marriage to Albert Schiphoff on December 27, 1945, at the Melvin First Reformed Church, Melvin, IA. They farmed in the Melvin area from 1947 to 1985 when they retired and then moved into Melvin on April 1, 1987. Albert died on July 29, 1996. Corie became a resident of the Country View Manor in June of 1996. It was there that she passed away on September 22, 2008 at the age of 89.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carol (Norm) Rehborg of Fulda, MN, Joe (Lorna) Schiphoff of Melvin, IA, and Gary (LuAnn) Schiphoff of Sibley, IA: seven grandchildren: Robyn (Gerald) Van Heuvelen, Rhonda (Neil) Cuperus, and Rita (Ray) Smith, Michael (Marne) Schiphoff, Angela (Tony) Graves, Ryan (Tracy) Schiphoff, and Brent (Janette) Schiphoff; 11 great grandchildren: Jordan, Cade and Kylee Schiphoff, Haley and Joshua Graves, Dalton, Dylan and Jaden Schiphoff, Mackenzie and Marshall Schiphoff, and Shandra Cuperus; two brothers: Tony (Ruthie) Pruissen of Hinkley, MN and Bill Pruissen of Port Orchard, WA; one sister: Jane (Jerry) Grant of Anoka, MN, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Theresa Imhoff and Henrietta Pruissen.
Corie was a member of the Melvin First Reformed Church where she was active in many areas. She was a long-time member of the Reformed Women’s Guild, having been treasurer for over 42 years. She taught Sunday school for 15 years and was a substitute teacher at Melvin Community School.
Corie enjoyed gardening, canning, her flowers (her favorite being peonies), playing games and visiting with family and friends. She loved her family very much and was always there for them. Blessed be her memory. She is HOME now.
